• Bathtubs also provide a slippery surface on which to fall. To reduce this risk, install a non-skid mat or adhesive strips.

• Use a non-skid bath mat on the floor to prevent slipping when getting in and out of the tub or shower.

• Make sure all medications, including vitamins, prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs have child-resistant caps.

• Lock medicines and cosmetics in a secure cabinet. Always leave medicines in their childproof and labeled containers. If some didn't come in such safety containers (many over-the-counter medicines don't), store them on a shelf well out of even a climbing child's reach.

• Be sure to cover any open outlets with child safety covers to prevent small children from playing with them.

X-14 The Bathroom Expert

• Cover the trash can with a lid a child cannot remove. Common bathroom items such as razors, medications, old cleaning supplies, and hairspray containers can pose serious risks to curious young children.

• Keep cleaning supplies in cabinets with childproof locks or stored in a high and hard-to-reach cabinet. All cleaning products should be stored in their original labeled containers.

• Avoid using cleaning supplies that may leave a residue.

• Keep the bathroom floor clean and promptly wipe up all spills.

• Keep bathroom door closed. Install a hook-and-eye lock high up on the outside of the bathroom door so you can keep it secured when the bathroom isn't in use.
